This is a contract role through Magnit for Consumers Energy in Jackson, Michigan. This role will be hybrid working 3 days a week onsite in Jackson, MI.
Responsibilities:
Develop, update, and maintain Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) plans for substation facilities in compliance with EPA 40 CFR Part 112.
Analyze engineering materials including site drawings, blueprints, aerial imagery, survey reports, and topographical data to support SPCC planning.
Design and perform calculations for stormwater management and oil containment volumes.
Create and revise facility diagrams using CAD and other design software to reflect SPCC requirements.
Conduct field investigations and site visits to verify compliance with SPCC plans and ensure implementation of engineering controls.
Maintain detailed records and prepare technical reports documenting SPCC compliance activities.
Collaborate with construction, operations, and environmental teams to identify and mitigate environmental risks.
Serve as a liaison with environmental agencies, respond to regulatory inquiries, and represent the utility during audits.
Educate internal teams on spill prevention procedures and regulatory obligations.
Ensure coordination across business units to align with federal, state, and internal environmental policies.
Requirements:
Proficiency in civil engineering principles related to environmental compliance and infrastructure design.
Strong working knowledge of EPA regulations, especially 40 CFR Part 112, and relevant Michigan environmental laws.
Experience with spill modeling tools such as the Mineral Oil Spill Evaluation System (MOSES).
Skilled in interpreting technical documents and producing accurate engineering drawings.
Effective communicator with the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams and external agencies.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational and documentation skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet regulatory deadlines.
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
Active State of Michigan Professional Engineer (PE) license (required for SPCC plan certification and updates).
Hourly Pay Rate Range (dependent on location, experience, expectation)
The pay range that Magnit reasonably expects to pay for this position is: $42.86-$60/hr
