This is a contract role through Magnit for Consumers Energy. This role is working onsite 4 days a week and remote 1 day. But it requires reporting onsite to dams within the local territory as needed.
This position is intended for an engineer with 1-3 years of experience who is willing to build hydro experience as a contracted employee with the opportunity to become a direct hire within 1-2 years. The successful candidate will support the Chief Dam Safety Engineer, the Sr. Dam Safety Engineer, and analysts to ensure that Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) requirements are met, ensure dam safety and public safety is maintained, and ensure that professional quality work is supported. This is an opportunity to join a relatively small team that focuses on Hydroelectric Dam Safety as it relates to the assessment of conditions and water conveyance, engineering studies, public safety, and FERC regulatory compliance for its 13 River Hydroelectric Dams in Michigan. Future career opportunities will be presented within the team, and efforts to obtain a Professional Engineering License (PE) will be supported.
The Hydro Generation Team consists of Operations & Maintenance, System Health Engineering, Dam Safety, Licensing, and Land Management. This team is preparing to transition with the dams to Confluence Hydro, a Subsidiary of Hull Street Energy, pending regulatory approval and this is expected to take place within 12 to 18 months. This position will involve a combination of remote office work and some in-person reporting to it’s headquarter locations. Periodic travel to the 13 dams (spread throughout the state) is expected.
Job Overview:
The successful candidate will be expected to spend time in the field and in the office and will be responsible for the following key components of the Dam Safety program:
A supporting role with additional Dam Safety programs, including the Owners Dam Safety Program, the Emergency Action Plan Program, and various FERC regulatory requirements and communication.
Requirements:
• Some Engineering experience preferred in Civil or Instrumentation/technology disciplines
• Knowledge of Civil/Structural codes preferred
• Experience engineering software and/or technology software
• Good communication skills (Written/Oral)
Education:
Bachelor’s Engineering degree from an ABET accredited program; ideally in Civil / Structural Engineering
Hourly Pay Rate Range (dependent on location, experience, expectation)
The pay range that Magnit reasonably expects to pay for this position is: $ 37-$45/hr
