Job Title: Financial Controller

About the team: 

Reporting to the Director of Finance, Commercial Growth & Insights based in Chicago within the Finance & Insights team.  

 

About the Role: 

The Financial Controller contract role will co-lead the preparation, review and approval of DNAB’s (Diageo Non-Alcoholic Beverage) financial statements, uphold cost-controlling measures, and steer DNAB toward spend efficiency in a division committed to 50%+ YOY growth.   

  

Role Responsibilities:  

Helping prepare and leading the review and approval of accurate monthly financial statements, including tracking of key invoices, accruals, prepaid assets, amortization schedules and identifying one-off journal entries, and spotting of anomalies. 

Upholding existing cost-controlling measures, including monthly budget/spend reviews with many DNAB employees, and implementing new processes if the need arises Dive deep into Advertising & Promotional (A&P) and Overheads (OH) spend, not only controlling spend vs. approved budgets, but identifying efficient/inefficient A&P campaigns and steering DNAB toward improved A&P efficiency  

Interfacing with DNAB employees on invoicing/payment/vendor set-up issues and guiding them toward resolution Directing A/R collection  

Updating existing Excel-based financial models and leading the creation of forward-looking financial models. 

Answering complicated accounting questions with accuracy. 

Deep familiarization and review of volumetric shipment and depletion performance 

Assisting the Director of Finance in preparation of presentations for key stakeholders 

 

What will you need to succeed in this role: 

CPA degree strongly preferred (or CMA) 

Experience with CPG companies is vital – food & beverage CPG experience even better 

 

Experience / Skills Required: 

5-15 years of financial experience (progressive responsibilities across accounting, financial management and/or controlling), experience working with accounting departments, and deep knowledge of the major financial statements 

High proficiency in Excel, including knowledge of medium-to-advanced formulas, and some experience in building financial models 

Ability to perform in an environment that’s both entrepreneurial and corporate 

Strong sense of Financial Accounting Experience in Financial Controlling 

Good experience in maintaining budget and previous experience maintaining monthly, quarterly, half-yearly and annual budget is an added advantage 

Proficient in MS Excel  

Experience in Power BI is a plus  

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required (Master’s degree preferred)
