The Summer Associate will serve as a junior analyst within the Integrated Field Execution Effectiveness (FEE) team, leveraging analytical, statistical, and storytelling skills to evaluate and optimize the effectiveness of Novartis field teams across Customer Engagement (CE), Novartis Patient Support (NPS), and Medical Affairs.
This individual will work with experienced Directors, cross-functional partners, and Hyderabad analytics colleagues to execute advanced analytical tests, measure the causal impact of field execution on business outcomes, and create insights that influence senior leadership decisions.
The role requires strong analytical rigor, comfort working with imperfect datasets, and the ability to synthesize complex results into compelling, business-facing narratives.
Major Activities
Analytical Execution & Methodology
• Perform exploratory data analysis, data cleaning, and feature preparation on complex datasets.
• Execute causal inference methodologies such as Propensity Score Matching (PSM) and Difference-in-Differences (DiD) to measure incremental impact of field execution on business outcomes (e.g., NBRx, patient days on product).
• Analyze iCVA clickstream data to identify slide sequences and engagement patterns associated with improved prescribing intent.
• Develop statistical tests and validate analytical approaches to support field execution strategy.
Business Insight Development
• Translate analytical findings into clear, concise, and actionable insights for senior leadership.
• Partner with FEE Directors to craft compelling stories connecting model outputs to real-world business decisions.
• Collaborate cross-functionally (e.g., CE, NPS, Medical Affairs, Omnichannel, Sales Ops) to integrate insights and build holistic recommendations.
Leadership Engagement & Communication
• Meet with senior leaders to understand field and business challenges.
• Present analytical outcomes in business-friendly formats using data visualization tools.
• Support communication and alignment with stakeholders across commercial, patient support, and medical organizations.
Minimum Requirements
Education
• Actively pursuing a graduate degree (Master’s or PhD) from an accredited institution in a quantitative discipline such as Data Science, Statistics, Economics, Behavioral Science, Analytics, Engineering, or related Social/Life Sciences.
Technical Skills
• Proficiency with statistical and data manipulation tools such as Python, R, SAS, SQL, Alteryx/Dataiku.
• Experience applying machine learning techniques and/or causal modeling approaches.
• Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Python plotly or MS PowerBI.
• Ability to analyze structured and unstructured data.
• Experience working with imperfect data and navigating complex data environments.
Soft Skills & Mindset
• Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical storytelling ability.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to influence non-technical stakeholders through clear narrative and insight.
• Desire to work in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment with short timelines.
Preferred Competencies
• Experience with PSM, DiD, or other causal inference techniques.
• Experience with AutoML, optimization, or advanced model validation.
• Background in marketing analytics, decision sciences, or behavioral science.
• Exposure to text analytics or clickstream/engagement analytics.
• Experience applying design thinking principles.
Business Impact
• Strengthen organizational understanding of field execution effectiveness and its impact on business outcomes.
• Support development of insights that directly influence strategic deployment of field teams.
• Enhance the organization’s capability to conduct rigorous analytics, develop data-driven strategies, and improve performance across CE, NPS, and Medical Affairs.
• Contribute to creating scalable methods and analytical frameworks that can be used across IDS.
