We are looking for a highly motivated Molecular Biology Lab Expert to support and expand the development of biocatalytic processes across Novartis. As part of the Development team you will join the Protein Engineering group to unlock the next breakthroughs in Biocatalysis. Our success will have a direct impact on the sustainability of the future productions processes of Novartis. The position is a perfect opportunity for you as enthusiastic lab expert to apply your own expertise in an exciting and innovative pharmaceutical environment.
Key responsibilities:
• Execute standard molecular biology workflows including library construction, colony picking, and next-generation sequencing in a high-throughput format.
• Operate and maintain high-throughput robotic platforms and equipment.
• Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and support accurate documentation and systematic archiving.
• Critically assess and troubleshoot experimental workflows across all process stages and propose improvements to enhance efficiency and reliability.
• Analyze data and communicate results clearly and efficiently, including thorough interpretation and documentation.
Essential requirements:
• Completed apprenticeship as Lab Technician or BSc/MSc in Molecular Biology, ideally with experience in protein biochemistry
• Comfortable with multi-tasking of repetitive routine operations
• Proficient in conducting molecular biology experiments, interpreting data, and suggesting workflow improvements
• Basic understanding of microbiology
• Able to communicate effectively in English
• Ready to work in international and multidisciplinary teams
• Open-minded personality and “can do” attitude
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Desirable requirements:
• Experience in enzymology and biotransformation; knowledge of chemical composition and processes
• Hands-on experience with cloning, recombinant protein expression, and/or genetic library generation
• Familiarity with automated systems
• Theoretical understanding of biocatalytic transformations and protein engineering
• Familiarity of library analysis using next-generation sequencing
Workload: 100% (40 hours per week)

Contract end date: 31 December 2028
