About the role:

MUFG are seeking an experienced Settlements Subject Matter Expert (SME) and Business Analyst to support an assignment within Markets Operations. The role will provide deep technical and operational expertise across settlement processes, controls, and exception management and change. This is a hands-on business analysis delivery role requiring strong knowledge of settlement lifecycles across asset classes, close coordination with Front Office, Technology, and external counterparties.

The role will play a key part in supporting the firm’s readiness for the transition to T+1 settlements, providing expert input into the assessment and redesign of end to end settlement processes to operate within a shortened settlement cycle. This includes identifying operational bottlenecks, reducing manual touchpoints, strengthening controls around trade affirmation, allocation and exception management, and supporting cross functional coordination with Front Office, Technology, and external market infrastructures. The SME will help ensure settlement processes are resilient, scalable, and compliant with evolving regulatory and market requirements under T+1.

Settlements Expertise & BAU Support

  • Act as the Business Analyst supporting T+1 settlement readiness, undertaking detailed analysis of end‑to‑end settlement processes to identify gaps, risks, and dependencies arising from a shortened settlement cycle.
  • Elicit, document, and validate business requirements across Settlements, Front Office, Technology, and external market infrastructures, ensuring alignment to T+1 regulatory and market standards.
  • Map current‑state and target‑state processes, with a focus on reducing manual touchpoints, improving Straight‑Through Processing (STP), and strengthening controls around trade affirmation, allocation, matching, and exception management.
  • Partner closely with Technology to translate business requirements into clear functional specifications, supporting solution design, impact assessments, and delivery planning.
  • Support change delivery by contributing to test strategy, preparing UAT scenarios, executing business testing, and validating outcomes against T+1 requirements.
  • Identify operational risks, control gaps, and dependencies impacting settlement timeliness, escalating issues where appropriate and supporting remediation planning.
  • Provide clear, structured updates to senior stakeholders on requirements status, delivery risks, and readiness milestones.
  • Support documentation of processes, controls, and operating procedures to ensure effective handover into BAU and sustainable adoption post‑implementation.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Strong expertise in Settlements in a sell-side/Investment Banking environment, T+1 project experience would be highly desired.
  • Business Analysis expertise in operational change projects on back office projects within financial services.
  • Product knowledge within Fixed Income and derivatives highly advantageous.
  • Ability to gather and document business requirements, analyse As-Is and To-Be processes, perform gap analysis, and support technical design, testing strategy, and project documentation throughout the lifecycle.
  • Produce status reports and senior stakeholder presentations, prioritise deliverable and commercially beneficial pipelines, resolve issues across the project lifecycle, and act as an escalation point for technical and client-related matters.
  • Ensure solutions meet operational, regulatory, and market requirements, collaborate cross-functionally to improve service levels, and drive efficiency improvements and business expansion initiatives.
  • Product knowledge within Fixed Income and derivatives highly advantageous.
