About the role:

To ensure high quality day-to-day payroll service, support the delivery of smooth monthly and annual payroll processes, as part of an integrated payroll team for MUFG and effectively deputise for the Payroll Lead. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Deliver full end-to-end payroll support across the employee lifecycle, including joiners, leavers, transfers, parental leave and expatriate payroll.
  • Own payroll processing and associated accounting activities, ensuring accurate payroll treatment, general ledger postings and reconciliations.
  • Manage post-payroll activities including pension processing, benefits reconciliation and internal account movements.
  • Act as a key liaison between Payroll, HR Shared Services, Global Mobility, Benefits and Finance to ensure timely and accurate payroll changes.
  • Monitor payroll integrations (ADP, Workday, Darwin) and maintain data integrity across systems.
  • Respond to employee and HR payroll queries, ensuring a high-quality, client-focused service.
  • Support internal and external audits, maintaining strong controls and risk awareness.
  • Maintain payroll documentation and process maps in line with HR policies and local legislation.
  • Identify and drive process improvements, streamline workflows and highlight control gaps.
  • Promote best practice within the payroll team, sharing knowledge and supporting a high-performance culture.

Experience & Skills

Essential:

  • Proven UK end-to-end payroll experience within a fast-paced financial services or regulated environment
  • Experience supporting medium to large-scale payrolls with high levels of accuracy and control
  • Strong working knowledge of ADP IHCM and Workday
  • Solid understanding of payroll accounting, including reconciliations and general ledger processes
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong overall Microsoft Office capability
  • Experience working closely with HR and Finance teams
  • Excellent numeracy, attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of payroll implications relating to benefits and international mobility

Desirable:

  • Experience processing benefits through payroll
  • Knowledge of pension legislation and pension payroll administration
  • Exposure to overseas or expatriate payrolls
  • Degree educated and/or working towards a recognised CIPP qualification
