About NIBR-Emeryville Compound Management Group:
The Compound Management and Automation Group (CMAG) in Emeryville enables small molecule drug discovery by providing access to local compound samples and samples provided by external research partners for biological testing. The group dissolves compounds and distributes the compounds in various customized formats, which are provided to scientists locally and globally daily. To achieve these functions, the group maintains and employs multiple storage, liquid handling, and plate handling systems that are closely integrated within the NIBR informatics infrastructure. The group partners closely with the scientists in Emeryville, NIBR Informatics teams, and the Compound Management Groups at the other Novartis sites.

Novartis is looking for a highly motivated individual to be a key contributor to the Compound Management & Automation Group (CMAG). As a member of the CMAG, the successful candidate will support compound fulfillment, disbursement, operation, development, and validation of laboratory automation systems. The candidate will support initiatives to upgrade and update systems and validate critical lab automation while prioritizing order fulfillment, customer satisfaction, and order.

Key Responsibilities:
• Support day-to-day compound handling workflows, including prioritization and fulfillment of the daily orders, Receiving and distribution of samples, validation of laboratory equipment, management of laboratory supplies, periodic review of Standard Operating Procedures and other lab duties as needed to support site research.
• perform compound management tasks such weighing compounds in powder format, compound dissolution using DMSO, and preparation of compound solutions in plated formats using manual and automated systems.
• Serve as the first point of contact to assist lab members in troubleshooting a variety of equipment, operational, and logistical matters.
• Approaches work with urgency, manages basic research activities in parallel, and supports general lab responsibilities.
• Self-motivated and flexible to manage multiple priorities and adapt plans quickly as needed in a fast-paced environment

Minimum requirements:
• This position requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific or engineering field and at least 1- 3 years of experience supporting key automated laboratory processes in pharma or biotech using liquid handlers (Tecan, Agilent Bravo systems) and TTP storage systems.
• Prior experience working in a laboratory environment handling chemicals, small molecule, and compound dissolution, and making assay-ready plates for the biologist
• Hands-on experience with activities related to compound management processes, with a practical understanding of inventory management, solution production, quality control methodology, logistics management, and service-oriented practices.
• A self-motivated, well-organized, and reliable individual with a customer-focused mindset.
• Demonstrated troubleshooting skills with laboratory workstation and automation platforms, with particular emphasis on Agilent and Tecan automation platforms, printers (Azenta,Citizen), Scanners and Mettler-Toledo analytical balances.
• Excellent written, verbal, and time management skills
• Proven ability to work as both a team member and individual contributor
• Excellent attention to detail, keen observational skills, and a commitment to quality

Location: Emeryville, CA (Onsite)
Pay Rate: $30-$34/hr based on experience and qualifications (W2 Only)
Contract: 6 month
