Responsibilities:
Provides counsel and advice to top management on significant Infrastructure matters, often requiring coordination between organizations. Serves as the lead technical consultant responsible for design, engineering and development of information technology solutions. Leads the design, analysis, development and implementation of engineering infrastructure solutions of projects and/or work requests for complex business solutions. Troubleshoots and proceeds on resolving complex infrastructure compatibility issues based on system architecture, project requirements, customer expectations, etc. May be involved in the creation of design specifications and the development and application of utility programs and may resolve escalated infrastructure compatibility problems as they arise. Responsibilities may include risks assessments, partnering on capacity planning, budget forecasting, and the diagnosis and correction of application/network problems. May serve as the primary contact for vendors. Technologies span mainframe, midrange, desktop, server, network data, voice, messaging, web, database, and output/receiving. Focuses on providing thought leadership and technical expertise across multiple disciplines. Recognized internally as “the go-to person” for the most complex Infrastructure Engineering assignments.
- Analyze daily reports to review the health of our virtual environments in the enterprise
- Perform VM resource requests & reviews - analyze and evaluate utilization and determine appropriate allocations. Approve/Deny and re-assign to Linux/Windows for execution.
- Hardware Quotes - Gather details and determine hardware needs. Request hardware quotes from the vendors and validate the quotes and sizing with the requestor and adjust as appropriate.
- Project Requests

- Submit the order with the cost center provided by the requestor
- Infrastructure Capacity
- Track monthly UCS capacity reports showing used blades, unused blades, available slots, and inventory details
- Cluster Capacity
- Review weekly capacity reports on our virtual environment showing 70%, 80%, and 90% thresholds (SOC2-AV2 Audit annually)
- Add hosts to clusters as needed…procure hardware and hand off to x86 for physical build…( x86 Infra and Capacity tracking, DCPs, Build Sheets, Jira tickets)
- Request storage as needed to keep DS clusters at min 20% available.
- X86 Infrastructure and Capacity Tracking
- Maintain weekly reports to track all hardware orders with the vendors including hardware details, ETA details, build details, and process status
- Complete data center work forms with Server Names, VLANs, IPs, storage and other server details from the requestor
- Partner with the Hardware Refresh teams to perform capacity analysis, and maintain warranty coverage information
- Track hardware inventory and details (Cisco, Dell, HPE, NetApp, Lenovo) - utilize vendor supplied reports, hardware management consoles, and data collection scripts
- Forecast HWR based on 4yr lifecycle from original purchase date. (4yr old hardware removed gets moved to DR to refresh older hardware and added to Park Place for break fix coverage)
- Clean up of HWR decoms and warranty cancellations
- Complete analysis of HWR scope and planned moves, builds, migrations, decoms, etc.
- Define Infrastructure Builds and Standards for VMware hosts and clusters
- UCS domain and VMware host builds
- Documentation updates for hardware and software configuration standards
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3+ years of relevant professional experience
- Through understanding of VMWare
- Experience with performance analytics and reporting
- Working knowledge of vROPS (vRealize Operations or VMWare vRealize Operations)
- Grafana (nice to have)
- Linux/Windows (nice to have)
- A self-starter who is proactive in all aspects of the role.
- Ability to deal with ambiguity.
- Proficient organizational skills with the ability to work collaboratively with business partners.
- Must be able to span technical organizations and understand dependencies of each.
- Excellent communication, coaching and mentoring skills (knowledge sharing, peer guidance & support)
Hourly Pay Rate Range (dependent on location, experience, expectation)
The pay range that Magnit reasonably expects to pay for this position is: $63.00/hour-$83.00/hour
